It’s the kind of elegant, wow-factor event you would fly across an ocean for and Lara Bingle did just that, jetting in from a photo shoot in the US — where she had been hanging out in the Hamptons with friends she made in her earlier life as a model — for Wednesday night’s exquisite Prix de marie claire awards, held at the Star.
Wearing a Christian Dior black dress and netted face veil, the reality starlet, who has been taking a much-needed break from the Sydney social scene, said she wanted to support the magazine and its awards, which recognise style, innovation and design in the fashion and beauty industries.
While that’s fancy-pants speak for much ado about nothing — that is, opening an envelope to celebrate a lipstick or shampoo — the event is always worth attending.
The 2013 awards didn't disappoint, with romantic candles, mirrors and a fabulous four-course meal. "I think there’s not that many big-budget-type evenings and with the online presence and social media taking over, magazines have really taken a back seat, so I'm really excited to be celebrating the biggest fashion magazine in Australia. It’s always nice to be invited," Bingle said.
