'I'M NO EINSTEIN, I'M JUST LIVING MY LIFE', LARA BINGLE TELLS ROS REINES

Lara Bingle, will use Bondi as a backdrop for Being Lara Bingle, her new reality series which starts filming next month.

The model (yes, that's her chosen job title at the moment because she has officially relinquished most of her other creative roles), is renting a house at Bondi for the Ten series and will be moving in various family and friends, including her construction worker brother, Josh.

Also in front of the cameras will be her manager and bestie, Hermione Underwood and long-time friend, make-up artist Max May.

"I'm not Einstein, I'm just living my life," Bingle tells me.

"Josh lives at home and my mum makes his lunch at the moment - he has the best lunchbox of anyone.

"But I don't think I will be doing that when he moves in."

She credits her brother for keeping it real for her.

"He'll ring me and say, 'Lara, have you lost that big fat arse yet?" she laughs.

Bingle says she's shed the famous 5kg she put on, thanks to a healthy diet, lots of exercise and a cleanskin lifestyle without alcohol.

"Late-night partying doesn't interest me," she says. "I'd rather go to the gym".

Bingle believes her unscripted reality show will succeed because unusual things keep happening to her, including two policemen turning up at her door last Thursday when she was fresh out of the shower.

Bingle says the police questioned her about driving while disqualified but she insisted all her fines had been paid off and the RTA had restored her licence. Calls to the authorities proved her right.

Then there's all those trips she takes on private jets including one chartered by the Leto brothers, Jared (30 Seconds To Mars) and Shannon, so they could go hiking around Lake Tahoe.

'It's not that much of a big deal, " she insists.

"Private jets are much cheaper to charter in the States."

Bingle says she is not seeing anyone romantically and that Byron Bay professional surfer, Dion Agius, to whom she was linked last summer, is "just a friend".

Who knows what will happen by the time the cameras start rolling next month.

She isn't concerned about The Shire reality show stealing her audience but says hers is the first reality show based on one person's life, with Brynne Edelsten's soon to follow.

Bingle is not convinced that Edelsten can carry her show but thinks she was "really sweet" when they did Seven's Dancing With The Stars together.

"Perhaps if Brynne were pregnant there would be more of a storyline going on," she ponders.

Interestingly, one of Bingle's biggest inspirations is swimsuit designer and former model, Jodhi Meares, to whom she turns for advice.

"I love everything about her, particularly the way she has handled herself," she says.

Bingle admits she was very apprehensive at the beginning when asked to do the show but was assured she would be given control over what went to air.

"Now I see it as an incredible opportunity," she says. "I can't wait until it starts filming." Most importantly of all, while the money is not great for the series now, Bingle hopes that with the production company, John McAvoy's Eyeworks' tentacles overseas, it will sell in some lucrative markets.

DATE WITH KATE: LARA BINGLE

Model Lara Bingle has signed a lucrative deal with Channel Ten to star in her own reality series, Being Lara Bingle. Kate Waterhouse caught up with the 24-year-old to chat about the show, her negative publicity and rumoured weight gain.

Can you tell us about the plot of your new show?
I'm working on a number of things throughout the show, like sunglasses, skincare, jewellery . . . I've had to find manufacturers and everything and the personal life stuff, you can't script that. I'm moving into a house with [my best friend and manager] Hermione and my brother – that will be a show in itself.

Do you feel the media create a negative image of you?
Yes, 100 per cent. I don't take it too seriously but it can be very annoying when something is printed and it's not right. It's little things. If I turn up to a Louis Vuitton function dressed in Louis Vuitton, the media will say, "Why isn't she supporting Australian designers?" There is always a negative angle. I'm going to get criticised either way but I'll never let it stop [me] from going forward.

What do you make of claims you're an attention seeker?
I don't care that much. In the past, I didn't care about the consequences, so when people say I was creating drama, I wasn't, I was just living. But now I feel like I've matured and I take responsibility for what I do. The only time I've ever cared is when they said I'd put on weight.

How did you feel about that?
That got to me. I cry all the time . . . I try not to read [stories about me] but it's hard not to, whether it's on TV . . . or your nan rings you and says, "Are you all right?" It's not even that it's being written, it's just that everyone on the street feels like they have the right to tell me their opinion; everyone felt like they could weigh in on my weight.

Do you have any regrets?
No not really. For example, if I stayed with Michael, I would not be the person I am today. Everything was given to me on a silver platter, I had no moral values, I was not a nice person. I had a money tree out the back, clothes, cars, everything was [too] easy . . . but now I put it all in perspective. I took everything for granted, even with my weight. I now train 10 times harder than I ever did. I used to be able to eat whatever I wanted but it all catches up with you.

Are you still in contact with Clarkey?
Yes, I speak to him sometimes but no one wants their ex-girlfriend calling them. He is always very supportive.

What do you look for in a man?
Humour and also protection, like that's your man and you could tell them anything. For me, I've always had boyfriends that . . . "jealous" is not the right word but they just can't cope [with me being] very strongly driven. They are like, "Where do I fit in?" I'm not very good with relationships [laughs]. I've had a failed engagement, I've had Danny [Cipriani], who dropped me on my arse. The magazine was still on the stand about how [we] had fallen in love, and he had told me we were over. Danny had done to me what I had done to every guy in my life. The moment he gave it back to me I was like, "Wow, OK . . . " It was the lesson I had to learn.

WE WENT TO: Fratelli Paradiso, Potts Point.

WE ATE: Olives; prosciutto and figs; veal and a rocket and parmesan salad.

WE DRANK: Sparkling mineral water.

LARA WORE: Bassike top, Scanlan & Theodore skirt and Christian Louboutin heels.

WHO ME OFFICER? LARA LOSES HER LICENCE

Photobucket

Not even an outstanding coquettish performance could prevent habitual traffic offender Lara Bingle from losing her licence again this week.

Bingle, who has had more driving dramas than your average 24-year-old swimsuit model, had her Mercedes G pulled over by police in central Sydney on Wednesday afternoon and was told her licence had been suspended because of unpaid parking fines.

As the heavily tinted window on the $200,000 tank came down, our well-placed photographer reported that Bingle turned on the charm to a stoney-faced officer who, upon recognising the vehicle, had pulled the blonde over to advise her that she would be losing her licence until such time as she paid her fines.

Faced with the prospect of walking home, Bingle's rep confirmed the model and soon-to-be reality show subject told the officer that, if he would only wait a moment, she would phone through her credit card details and pay the outstanding fines so he could clear her licence.

It is barely a year since Bingle lost her licence for speeding.

She spent that three-month suspension riding a pushbike around Sydney and created a furore after giving an interview in which she said she had lost her licence after taking demerit points for friends. NSW Police later said an investigation would be held into her statement.

Bingle's carelessness as a driver is well documented. She once crashed her Mini into a neighbour's car while swerving to miss a dog and had her $300,000 Aston Martin towed from a no parking zone in the city.
