LARA BINGLE'S NEW YORK MINUTE

Lara Bingle's very much-publicised trip to the Big Apple is under way. And, boy, did she arrive in style! Joined by best friend Tallie Nagel, Bingle left on a Qantas flight to New York, via LA, on Wednesday morning.

Hiding her face with designer sunglasses as she left Sydney, the model said she was excited about her American adventure, but didn't want to go into detail.

Her departure was low-key, but her arrival was anything but, with Bingle suddenly mustering up an entourage to help haul her Louis Vuitton luggage through JFK Airport.

But she hid her face from cameras as she walked to her chauffer-driven car.

She and a young female friend walked to a waiting SUV while her chauffer pushed her trolley, loaded with half a dozen suitcases.

"I'm just here to work and have a holiday," she said on her arrival.

Asked what sort of work, she said: "Just work. I don't want any press back home."

Bingle - who checked into the trendy Standard Hotel, a destination popular among young celebrities - and Aussie WAGs.

And she's thrown herself into the NYC lifestyle, if our photos are anything to go by, with Bingle shopping up a storm at high-end store Intermix, taking in Sex And The City 2 and striding about in sexy black leggings and designer heels.

"She's just happy to get away," a friend told us. "She's on holidays as well; it's not just work. They're staying in a hotel but they're going to be looking for an apartment."

LARA'S HEADING TO NY

After dumping her agent Max Markson two weeks ago, Lara Bingle has booked a ticket to the Big Apple where she is frantically chasing modelling opportunities in one of fashion's most cut-throat cities.

The model, who turns 23 next month, plans to spend almost three months shopping her Aussie tan to swimwear companies.

"I know I need to build up people's respect and I'm going to have to start at the bottom and work up," she told Grazia a fortnight ago.

Bingle told friends she loves the city where ex-fiance Michael Clarke two years ago proposed marriage.

In fact they almost crossed paths last week, with Clarke telling pals he was thinking of stopping in New York for a few days but it seems he changed his mind - he was home in Bondi by the weekend.

Bingle has started searching for a replacement for Markson, with sources claiming she met publicist Maria Farmer before flying to New York.

Addressing the matter of her engagement ring, which she was widely reported to have flushed down the toilet, Bingle said she had returned it to Clarke.

"I felt it was the right thing to do. It cost a lot of money and he works hard to achieve what he does. I just thought that was the best thing."

LARA: INDEPENDENCE DAY

In an exclusive – and unpaid – interview with Maxine Frith, Lara Bingle talks openly about splitting with Michael (and Max Markson), the big mistakes she has made and her hopes for the future. One step at a time.

She’s been “through the loneliest two months” of her life. Lara Bingle has spent the past eight weeks in virtual seclusion – she’s endured the Brendan Fevola nude photo scandal, a huge public backlash for selling her story to the highest bidder (after signing with celebrity agent Max Markson), and her split with fiancĂ© Michael Clarke.

To top it all off, there was the loss of several lucrative deals with brands who dumped her in the wake of the scandals.

But she emerged back into the spotlight at fashion week as a guest blogger for Harper’s BAZAAR, running the gauntlet of photographers and journalists to go front row and backstage. And afterwards, she sat down exclusively with Grazia to set the record straight on what’s happened.

First up, she wants to make one thing very clear: “I will never take money for a story again,” she says firmly, referring to her deal with a magazine in the wake of the Fevola photo scandal.

“I made a mistake, I can’t blame anyone else for it. It was my decision and I thought it would settle things but it just got worse.

“I’ll never do that again.”

For that reason, she has decided to sever ties with Markson, who brokered the deal.

“I don’t want the limelight anymore,” she says. “I’m going to live a much quieter life now…

“I lost so many deals [in the wake of the scandals], but I just want to work. I’m passionate about the fashion industry. I want to be involved in all kinds of ways; blogging last week was great and I like working with brands.”

“I know I need to build up people’s respect and I’m going to have to start at the bottom and work up, but that’s what I’ll do.”

For the first time in her adult life, she’s also having to do it alone.

“It’s scary because I’ve always had Michael at my side, supporting me, but now I’m having to stand on my own two feet,” she says, smiling.

“I’m buying a house on my own, choosing my own car, getting work. But it’s also exciting because it means I’m going to be independent.”

So what went wrong with their relationship, which ended very publicly in March?

“We’d always spent a lot of time apart, but it was just getting worse and worse…that’s really it,” she says.

“It was sad for both of us. We are both very passionate about our careers and we’ve always supported each other – we still do. I’m his number-one fan! I’d love to see him become captain [of Australia] one day.”

And contrary to reports that the split was difficult and ugly, Lara insists: “We’re still friends. We talk all the time and he’s been great to me...”

LARA BINGLE ENDS RELATIONSHIP WITH MANAGER MAX MARKSON

Lara Bingle has confirmed to Grazia Magazine, that she has dumped controversial manager and agent Max Markson.

Bingle, who confirmed Markson no longer represents her, says she hopes for a quiet lifestyle out of the limelight, and maintains she and Clarke remain friends.

"We talk all the time and he's been great to me."

Bingle also admits that selling the Brendan Fevola nude picture story for a reported $200,000 fee - a deal Markson brokered - cost her several sponsorship deals and a fall from grace in the public eye.

"I made a mistake. I can't blame anyone else for it.

"It was my decision and I thought it would settle things, but it just got worse," she said.

"I'll never do that again.

LARA BINGLE DISCUSSES BECOMING A DESIGNERS MUSE

Lara Bingle has spoken about following in the stylish footsteps of Audrey Hepburn and Maria Callas to become the muse du jour for Australian designer Jayson Brunsdon's Spring/Summer 2010 collection of glamorous, beachy designs.

For Bingle, a passionate lover of fashion, the creative tribute was both flattering and a welcome relief from the excessive media attention she's received while attending Australian Fashion Week.

"I've been bombarded," Bingle said of the camera crews that have followed her throughout Fashion Week.

But the 22-year-old insisted all the hysteria had being worthwhile when she learned Brunsdon had decided she was the muse for his new show.

"I think it's very flattering and I'm excited to view his interpretation of my style and how I dress," Bingle told AAP backstage before Brunsdon's show.

She described the collection as featuring "lots of white and a few sequins and it's beach glamour".

And despite her addiction to runway fashion, she insisted her heart still belonged to the beach.

"Always, I don't think I could live far away from the beach," she said.

Bingle is covering Fashion Week for the Harper's Bazaar website, which she says is her first step towards "really focusing on my career and where I want to be in the next two years".

"It's a clean slate now," said Bingle, who recently split with her cricket star fiance Michael Clarke.

"I think fashion is something I feel passionately about and I'm thrilled to be here and wearing Australian designers."

As for Clarke, she confirmed that he was supportive of her new role as a fashion blogger-meets-reporter.

"He is used to me having all these creative ideas and really wanting to try new things," she said.

LARA BINGLE TALKS ABOUT HER CAREER AND LIFE

Lara Bingle has opened up about life after her break-up ex-fiance Michael Clarke, saying it's been tough coping with the emotional turmoil and public scrutiny.

"It's been tough, yeah it's been tough," Bingle told the Today Show this morning.

And she didn't seem phased by the uncertainty surrounding her future after a series of career set-backs recently, saying she simply tried not to think about it.

"I try not to worry too much," she said.

Despite doubts over her popularity among the fashionistas at Rosemount, Bingle said she was enjoying her role as roving video reporter with Harpers Bazaar.

In a black leather jacket worn over a grey marle draped dress (all Camilla & Marc, natch)

“I’m just so excited to be working for Harper’s Bazaar and to be able to present my view of how I see fashion and who my favourite designers are,” she said. “I’m not going to every show but I am going to the ones my friends are doing.” Needless to say Camilla and Marc fall into that category.

"I just want to work. I'm really happy at the moment," she said.

"I'm trying to do my job, and being given that chance is really exciting for me."

Asked about her credentials for such a high-powered journalistic role, Bingle just said clothes were her passion.

"It's what I love, I'm not opinionated about everything to do with fashion, but I love getting dressed up, I love wearing beautiful clothes."
