BINGLE BUZZING AT AWARDS

It’s the kind of elegant, wow-factor event you would fly across an ocean for and Lara Bingle did just that, jetting in from a photo shoot in the US — where she had been hanging out in the Hamptons with friends she made in her earlier life as a model — for Wednesday night’s exquisite Prix de marie claire awards, held at the Star.

Wearing a Christian Dior black dress and netted face veil, the reality starlet, who has been taking a much-needed break from the Sydney social scene, said she wanted to support the magazine and its awards, which recognise style, innovation and design in the fashion and beauty industries.

While that’s fancy-pants speak for much ado about nothing — that is, opening an envelope to celebrate a lipstick or shampoo — the event is always worth attending.

The 2013 awards didn't disappoint, with romantic candles, mirrors and a fabulous four-course meal. "I think there’s not that many big-budget-type evenings and with the online presence and social media taking over, magazines have really taken a back seat, so I'm really excited to be celebrating the biggest fashion magazine in Australia. It’s always nice to be invited," Bingle said.

BINGLE'S BACK IN SYDNEY

Lara Bingle cut short her overseas trip this week to attend Wednesday’s Prix De Marie Claire Awards. The model had been due to shoot a campaign in Thailand but flew into Sydney on Friday morning straight from LA.

She got here just in time to attend best friend Vicki Lee’s art exhibition IS./WET that night.

Bingle will join Kym Ellery, Megan Gale and Charlotte Dawson at the black tie event to be held at The Star.

LARA'S SHOPPING UP A STORM IN NEW YORK CITY

Lara Bingle was spotted shopping up a storm in New York on Friday in skin tight leather pants.

While the look was on trend, the pants did not show off the 25-year-old's natural beauty or her fantastic physique.

The model - who has been linked to a string of professional sportsmen and most recently Anthony Kiedis from the Red Hot Chilli Peppers - flew in from her native Sydney last week and has been busy seeing, and shopping, the top spots of the city that never sleeps.

The swimsuit model stepped out on Friday morning wearing her leather pants - that were so tight they needed zips on the ankles so she could get them on - a black tailored suit jacket with a fur scarf, a black beanie and shinny winklepicker shoes.

Giving her outfit some serious fashion power, Lara also added a pair of cat eye tortoiseshell framed glasses with purple lenses and a Louis Vuitton black calf skin tote which was designed by cult film director Sophia Coppola.

Clad in designer labels from head to toe the Australian model headed out to the top stores of New York to add to her designer collection.

Lara certainly enjoyed her time in the Jill Sander store walking away with something specially after trying on a number of outfits.

Along the way, the golden haired beauty picked up a new jacket which she loved so much she put straight on.

Lara gave her outfit a little afternoon pick up, swapping her black suit jacket for a red suit jacket.

With her new jacket on and her Jill Sander purchase in hand, the model looked to be in a great mood.

The 25-year-old has certainly relished her time away from Australia where she draws constant media attention.

As a relative unknown in America the star has been able to enjoy dinner with friends, basketball games and, of course, lots of shopping.

Lara tweeted that she was enjoying being in New York so much she may consider moving there.

'Uh oh I think I want to call this place my home #nyc,' the model wrote on Tuesday.

SKY'S THE LIMIT FOR DAREDEVIL BINGLE IN LATEST ADVENTURE

Is it a bird? Is it a plane? No, it's a Bingle. A Bingle on a plane.

Model and reality TV star Lara Bingle has turned death-defying stuntwoman, wing walking atop a 1920s British biplane as it soared above Sydney Harbour.

The brave 25-year-old performed a series of graceful poses as the plane swooped and dipped over the city after getting tips from the world's only aerobatic wing walking team, the Breitling Daredevils.

"Initially I thought it was going to be a lot slower and lots of gliding but the force of it was really intense; I could hardly move my legs," Bingle said after the 30-minute joyride.

"It was amazing, but so full on. It feels like I've had a facelift."

The swimsuit model was chosen by luxury watch brand Breitling to do the stunt, thanks to her reputation as a thrillseeker and lover of extreme sports such as heli-boarding and skydiving.

"We wanted to find an iconic Australian female who would be up to the challenge of standing on the wing of a plane, and Lara was the perfect fit," said Breitling's Christopher Leigh.

Bingle said her lingerie collection had been picked up by a major retailer and will be in stores this September.

SINGLE BINGLE HAPPY ALONE

Lara Bingle is single for the first time in years — and she likes it. Bingle recently split from fashion designer boyfriend Gareth Moody after 14 months together.

At the Kookai autumnwinter launch 2013, she told Confidential she was putting past romances behind her.

"To be honest, I’m happy just being by myself at the moment," she said.

"I’m just focusing on the next 10 months that I have mapped out. It’s the first time I’ve really been by myself for a long time."

"I’ve always had someone: Michael (Australian cricket captain Michael Clarke), Danny (rugby player Danny Cipriani) and then Gareth; there’s always been someone else."

Bingle left today for New York, where she will spend two weeks having meetings and doing photo shoots.

"I’ve got some work there and I’m also going to be doing a blog, a diary for Vogue." she said.

"It’s going to be great to see all my New York friends; I used to live there for a little while."

Bingle is putting the final touches to her debut lingerie range, due out later in the year.

The Kookai parade took place on Thursday at Melbourne’s Australian Centre for Contemporary Art.

LARA'S BEING PAINTED FOR THE ARCHIBALD

The artist who painted Lara Bingle for the Archibald Prize knew nothing about the reality TV star before she sat down in front of her yesterday, but described her as a "strong little unit".

"I don't watch TV or follow social media," New Zealand-born Pool told news.com.au. "But there's a lot of strength in her spirit."

Bingle said it was a "dream come true" for her to be painted for the historic prize.

"This is where magic happens. #archibald #iwaspaintedtoday#gabriellepool #dreamcometrue #cantwait," Bingle excitedly tweeted yesterday alongside a photo of the studio where she was being painted.

The 25-year-old socialite was suggested to Pool at the eleventh hour by mutual friend and photographer Simon Lekias, who brought Bingle to a Woolloomooloo warehouse yesterday for the sitting.

Pool's friends Jon Stevens of Noiseworks and TV presenter Ruby Rose had also agreed to sit for the artwork but were unavailable in time for the deadline.

Bingle was the first white person Pool had ever painted. She has previously only had Africans and indigenous subjects pose for her.

Having lived with tribes in Africa for several months on four separate occasion, Pool has traditionally recorded the world’s vanishing tribes in places such as Ethiopia and Australia’s Northern Territory and was invited to Africa by Nelson Mandela to work on the Unity Series in 2005.

"It was good to be able to branch out and do something completely out of my comfort zone - painting someone who's white and painting someone I know nothing about, face-to-face in the studio," she said.

The ink-on-canvas portrait was completed in one sitting, but the pair "hung out" for several hours, eating grapes in the studio and getting to know each other.

"She was very soft, very earthy and raw and had no make-up on. There was no distance between us. She was very gracious and very patient. It was enjoyable for both of us."

Despite entering the Archibald Prize on two previous occasions - Deni Hines in 2011 and Jimmy Little in 2012 - Pool has little confidence that her portrait of Bingle will make a finalist.

"People have been working on these portraits for months and months and I'm not really in the 'art dealing club'," she said.

The Archibald Prize is exhibited from March until June at The Art Gallery of NSW with awards given to the best portrait "preferentially of some man or woman distinguished in art, letters, science or politics".

It’s a big coup for the former star of reality show Being Lara Bingle with past muses for Archibald Prize paintings including artist Margaret Olley, actor David Wenham, radio announcer John Laws, TV journalist Jana Wendt, actor Jack Thompson, politician Malcolm Turnbull and actress Deborah Mailman.

Final submissions must be made by Friday with finalists and the Packing Room Prize winner announced on March 14 and the winner on March 22.
