Fashion entrepreneur Lara Bingle took to the airwaves yesterday to announce a raft of ambitious business deals that have some in the industry scratching their heads.
Looking dishevelled as she left for the 2DayFM studios in a taxi early yesterday, Bingle got behind the mic and talked up plans for a line of sunglasses as well as a "coffee table beauty book" while also bragging about being paid a lot more than the reported $50,000 fee for appearing on Dancing With The Stars.
"I'm releasing a sunglasses range this year, it's something that no one has done in Australia," Bingle announced, seemingly oblivious to ranges currently available by Peter Morrissey, Wayne Cooper, Kim Ellery and Leona Edmiston among others. "It's a collaboration between a brand, myself and a department store."
The one-time Australian Tourism ambassador also detailed plans for her soon-to-be-released tome which will feature stylised photographs of herself as well as some of her high-profile model mates.
"It's a coffee table book all based on Australia and Australian women and you know a lot of my friends are involved ... models and stuff," she said.
One fashion insider noted that Bingle's bold plans sounded "impressive" but came as a surprise to many in the industry.
Confirming this, representatives for both Myer, David Jones and Target admitted they were not in talks with Bingle or her management about a sunglasses range.
Channel 7, meanwhile, refused to comment on Bingle's DWTS salary. A rep for the model, who hitched a lift in Kyle Sandilands' Ferrari after the interview, didn't return calls yesterday.
