There must be terrible phone coverage off the coast of Capri, Italy.
Or perhaps Lara Bingle simply bungled the time difference.
Either way, the famed celebrity model couldn’t be reached on the phone during the auction of her Darling Point apartment this morning.
At first, it was thought this cost her the sale of the one-bedroom pad which was passed in at $855,000.
But tonight her agents confirmed the flat had gone, presumably after the hammer failed to fall.
Bingle’s brother and former reality show co-star Josh Bingle tried, in vain, to reach his sister who is currently holidaying with boyfriend Sam Worthington on the Italian coast.
Around 25 people attending the auction at the Goomerah Crescent which was presided over by McGrath auctioneer Scott Kennedy-Green.
Only two people engaged in active bidding and ultimately the highest bid of $855,000 was reached before the auction was wrapped up to allow for private negotiations.
At the time, McGrath’s Richard Bonouvrie said: “We would love to sell the property today.”
Asked if the identity of the vendor had any influence on her decision to bid for the 65-square metre flat, one female bidder yesterday simply smiled and said, ‘No’.
Bingle bought the second-floor apartment from interior designer Blainey North for $882,000 in 2010 not long after breaking her engagement with Michael Clarke.
Her brother yesterday admitted that he felt the final bid of $855,000 ‘wasn’t very good’.
